Aug 17th 2010 The Truth About Unhealthy Relationships
What is the reason that some romantic relationships don’t work well? The answer is usually easy. However there are lots of reasons.
Many people start a new relationship or stick around in one that isn’t working for all the wrong reasons. Some people do not see the negative turn in the horizon. Everyone knows the problem but choose to ignore them with the hope they will go off. And there are those who have been in a terrible situation for such a long time that they have no idea of how to escape.
Finding the right person for a relationship is the only way some people think that they can be truly happy. It may not always be true, but some people believe that if you’re alone, you’re also lonely. It is the real fact that many people who have others around them are still alone. This is typically the case for people who chose to stay in relationships with a lot of negative factors. Just because you are involved with someone, don’t assume that means you will find contentment and joy. The statistics around domestic violence more than justifies this conclusion.
In a healthy relationship there should be a certain degree of power, control, and importance shared between each partner. A situation in which one party dominates the other and makes all the decisions isn’t necessarily the world’s most healthy one. Sometimes young women mistake jealousy for love, this usually happens because they lack experience in dealing with men. Most people will protect someone they love, but you have to ask yourself if that is really what is going on in the situation at hand.
Manipulation, by certain guys, over their women is accomplished by taking the heat in any conflicts the woman may have with others. Usually this is made to look as if he really cares about her. A woman might feel as though she’s on a slippery slope because of this situation, leaving her with little to no control over what goes on around her. A lot of the time, abusive males begin as knights in shining armor. Keep in mind that if something seems too good to be true, more times than not, it isn’t true.
There are some dysfunctional behaviors that parties in a relationship should never have to tolerate. Abuse of any kind – be it physical, emotional, sexual, or substance abuse – is never acceptable and should not be put up with. A pattern of endless apologies and insisting that this will be the last time will come from the abuser, leading to a potentially serious situation. Ask the person to get help before salvaging the relationship.
When a relationship is not moving in the right direction, there will be a multitude of empty promises and regrets. If things that are committed to are not done, and without apologies, then this is an area of concern. You are the point where you need to decide whether to continue on or not. A relationship with your significant other will gradually lead to a long-term commitment involving marriage and a family. The dysfunction will only get worse and feel more and more like a trap the longer one stays and the more people get involved in the situation.
Despite the wonder of women who are selfless in their devotion, it is equally important that they take care of their own needs as well. It’s only at this time that they’ll see themselves not having to inquire as to the reason that a few romances result in relationships that don’t work out.
