Dec 8th 2009 11:58 am Why do men usually date women slightly younger and not vice versa?

Does anyone know the origin of the trend that men "usually" date women a couple of years younger and women don’t tend to date men who are younger. I stress usually. I know there are many exceptions. I don’t have an opinion on the matter either way just always wondered so any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanx guys

It is an evolutionary attraction.

Younger women are in their reproductive prime, which is why "Young" is seen as "Beautiful".

EVERYTHING we find attractive goes towards our instinctual mating urge to seek out the best breeding partner…

The only thing that changes our sexual urges is severe abuse in early childhood that causes a miss wiring in the brain that can lead to fetish and distorted sexuality and gender confusion.

I think it is because it takes men so long to catch up to women in maturity. So, women tend to be attracted to slightly older men.

Women usually mature faster than men and so go for someone older that have matured more.

When an older guy dates a younger girl, even if it’s only a couple years difference, it makes the guy feel younger, too. And women typically enjoy dating a more "mature", older man because they feel more secure or mature themselves.

First of all, times are changing with Cougars being introduced into the dating scene. People are starting to realize that age is nothing but a number and what counts is maturity. It’s actually quite common to see older women with younger guys now. But you are correct in feeling that the norm is older guy with a younger girl.
First theory is that females mature sooner than males; so to find an equally mature mate, females end up with an older guy.
Second theory is that the female is looking for a father figure.
Third theory is that a female feels more secure (protected) with an older guy.

Guys usually go for looks, females usually go for maturity.

I have no idea. I have met immatur men in their 40’s and 60’s and mature men in their 20’s. I don’t get it.
